PFLAG is the extended family of the LGBTQ community. We're made up of LGBTQ individuals, family members and allies. Because together, we're stronger.
Since 1997, when her son Carter came out at age 13, Linda Stroupe has served as chapter coordinator, chapter leader, South Atlantic Regional Director, and the PFLAG National Board Member. As Regional Director Linda has loved meeting and coaching PFLAG chapters in SC, NC, TN, and KY. Working in the South continues to be a tremendous challenge, greatly heightened by the backlash to marriage equality. Linda and her husband Mac believe the work of PFLAG members and their allies is crucial to the achievement of full equality and inclusion for LGBTQ people, their families, friends and loved ones. They continue to staff PRIDE tables, march in demonstrations, lobby legislators at the state and federal level, speak at PFLAG chapter meetings and meetings in schools, churches, and libraries. Receiving the North Carolina 2014 Bob Page Equality NC Equality Champions Award was one of Linda and Mac’s most gratifying moments. Linda is Presbyterian and is committed to the ongoing need for Christian denominations to enlarge the circle to welcome all. Although Linda has long since left the religious denomination in which she was raised, that church’s emphasis on witnessing and telling one’s story has propelled her PFLAG work. Local chapters, the Regional Directors Council and the National Board have also been a tremendous source of empowerment, education, and reenergizing. Together we are stronger!
