Founded in 1973, PFLAG is the first and largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and their families. PFLAG’s network of hundreds of chapters and more than 250,000 members and supporters works to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.
Thursday, March 31, 2022, marks the 13th annual International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV). The day is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments and victories of trans and gender-nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work still needed to save trans lives.
TDOV was founded in 2009 by transgender activist Rachel Crandall, who was motivated by the fact that there was no holiday in existence dedicated to honoring the achievements and contributions of trans people. At the time, the only major transgender-centered commemoration was the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), which serves several purposes including publicly mourning and honoring the lives of trans brothers and sisters who might otherwise be forgotten.
For trans allies, TDOV serves as a yearly reminder of the fact that trans lives matter.
We need always to look for opportunities to hold space for our trans loved ones, and celebrate and recognize their many accomplishments—on this day and, more importantly, year-round.
CELEBRATE TRANS TRAILBLAZERS
Nonbinary and trans people have always been here, not least in every recorded society from the ancient world onwards.
You are likely familiar with the names Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. Take the time to learn about these iconic trans trailblazers as well as the next steps in learning, celebrating and sharing the stories and contributions of other trans and gender-nonconforming people with your friends, family and colleagues. The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) has a great series of videos to help you on this journey to amplify trans voices.
NEW! Join Logo and trans activist Raquel Willis for a 3-part series March 29 – 31 as they uplift the voices of trans youth, celebrate trans joy, expression, and the beauty and diversity of their experiences.
