Blanca Leos

Mountain West (AZ, CO, NM, UT, WY)

Blanca's involvement with PFLAG started when her son came out eight years ago, initially she wanted to get educated about the LGBTQ community and wanted to learn how to break the stigma of raising a catholic Latino gay son. The struggles that she and her son have encountered over the years have been great educational opportunities among my family, friends, and other allies all while raising awareness. As a single Latina mom it has been an eye opening experience to learn how to deal with the preconceived notions that LGBTQ people face daily. Shortly after Blanca's involvement she took on a leadership role becoming the President of the PFLAG Denver chapter. In the last four years as president, the chapter has grown by adding satellites, revamping the chapter, developing new ways to raise money, increasing our visibility in the LGBTQ community, and thinking outside the box. Her passion for the Latino community has now transpired in being the best ally she can be. As a leader she has been challenged in many ways and been able to achieve things that she never thought possible, even done things that are out of my comfort zone which have made her a better leader.
