Cathy and her partner Dan are the parents of five adult children. With Dan’s support and encouragement, Cathy fulfilled her dream to attend college at 48 years old. She received a BS in 2005 and MS in 2010 from Indiana University, School of Public Health - Human Development and Family Studies program.

Cathy’s PFLAG journey began after her youngest son (then 20) confided in her that he was gay. Shortly after this conversation, she stumbled upon a local PFLAG group. Cathy served as White River Valley PFLAG President for 7 years. She works both openly and discreetly with families in a small conservative community as they navigate the journey of their questions, concerns, and growth.

Cathy is a member of the Board of Directors Spencer Pride, Inc. in the smallest rural community with an annual Pride Festival and downtown community center. “I am humbled by the diversity and strength of the LGBTQ+ community. Their courage makes them heroes.”

Cathy is employed with Indiana University as Assistant Director Health & Wellness Education and as an Adjunct Instructor for the School of Public Health. “I am drawn to the light that shines in the eyes of individuals that overcome difficult paths.”
