As we enter August--a time when lawmakers typically return to their home districts for vacation--there’s no better time to brush up on your advocacy skills, and get ready to get out the vote. And the best way to do both? With not one but two powerful publications from PFLAG National: One Voice Can Change the World: The PFLAG National Advocacy Guide and Toolkit and Make It Count: The PFLAG National Get Out the Vote Pocket Guide .

In 2014 we introduced One Voice… , a new publication that took the best of two PFLAG publications--Bringing the Message Home (a policy resource) and the Advocacy Guide and Toolkit (advocacy guidelines)--and married them in one comprehensive resource. With an aim to empower and encourage PFLAGers to meet with their elected officials regarding important issues impacting our LGBTQ loved ones, this year’s update features issue briefs, talking points, information to help you set up advocacy visits, and techniques for gaining the support of your elected officials.

Then, last year, we introduced Make It Count… a pocket-sized companion piece to One Voice…, offering up helpful tips to making sure that your powerful and persuasive PFLAG voices are heard at the polls. Covering topics such as 501c3 dos and don’ts, voter engagement, and more, this guide will be your best ally in the movement to bring people out to vote, especially as we enter this critical election season.

It is imperative that PFLAGers let lawmakers know that PFLAG’s values are America’s values...and that those values include comprehensive anti-discrimination laws for employment, housing, healthcare, adoption, and more. It is up to each of us in the PFLAG family to raise our voices in favor of fairness, and put an end to discrimination and prejudice.

Both publications are available for download on the new pflag.org website. Visit pflag.org/advocacy-101 to download your copy, and check out our other advocacy resources, too.
