This Father’s Day (June 21st), PFLAG honors and thanks the many dads who have worked hard to both support and help ensure protections for their LGBTQ+ children.
In honor of Father’s Day, we ask you to share with us how equality would be significant to you and your child(ren). Specifically, how--in light of the Supreme Court of the United States’ June 15th landmark decision regarding LGBTQ+ rights in the workplace--will the advancement of the Equality Act, affect you and your family?
As PFLAGers know, the June 15th Supreme Court rulings determined that people cannot be discriminated against based on their sexual orientation or gender identity during workplace hiring and firing processes. Additionally, PFLAGers also know that the Equality Act is federal legislation that would prohibit discrimination based on an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity not only at work, bu also in the context of housing, credit, education, and jury service. It would also prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex in programs that receive federal funding and places of public accommodations, as well as expand the list of protected places of public accommodations to include retail stores, transportation services like airports, taxis and bus stations, and service providers like accountants, for all protected characteristics.
