Looking for ways to keep the conversation going about LGBTQ+ issues with your ERG, community group, or PFLAG chapter? Welcome to Something to Talk About, a monthly series designed by PFLAG National’s Straight for Equality program to create conversation about LGBTQ+ issues. Each month we’ll offer an article on LGBTQ+ topics and suggest a few questions you can use to lead a discussion.
We hosted a conversation about this article as a part of PFLAG Connects and Something to Talk About Live on Thursday, September 17. Did you miss it? You can still watch it here!

Questions for Discussion:
- What role has LGBTQ+ media played in your life? In your opinion, what role do LGBTQ+ media, publications, and newspapers play in the lives of queer folks in the US and around the world? Is it more than just reporting news?
- The article notes that while at one time there were hundreds of LGBTQ+ publications in the US - in 2020 it is down to about 100, which includes only 11 weeklies. Why do you think that is the case? Is this trend likely to continue?
- Media has changed dramatically. What can people who are LGBTQ+ and allies do to support LGBTQ+ media? Is there anything specific you would recommend in 2020?
