Making Cents Out of Raising Money–Increase Your Chapter's Success!
Build the Future
Abby Maisonave, PFLAG Jersey Shore and PFLAG National Regional Director (North Atlantic Region) and William Placek, PFLAG Jersey Shore
Workshop Block 5: Sunday, October 22 - 9:45 am - 11:15 am
This training session will give you the framework to raise much needed funds for your PFLAG chapter. It will explore the foundations of fundraising across a variety of platforms, including the art and impact of storytelling, developing a successful elevator speech, and how to ask the “ask.” We’ll include a review of some of our chapter’s successful steps that increased our donations, and build upon the skills chapters have to develop effective fundraising techniques.
Abby Maisonave has been involved with PFLAG since 2004, first as a mom seeking support, subsequently as President of PFLAG Jersey Shore for 8 years and concurrently as the PFLAG Regional Director for the North Atlantic Region since 2012. She is a staunch activist and public speaker on LGBTQ issues, educates medical/teaching faculty regarding the LGBTQ patient/student, speaks to high school/college students, facilitates meetings, and answers a helpline for those in crisis or seeking information. She has been fortunate to work with amazing PFLAGers, both locally and nationally. She provides support and information in whatever way she can to help a chapter thrive and share the "tools of the trade" that she has acquired over the years to have a successful chapter. Abby is the proud mom of 3 phenomenal kids! She works in Pathology and as a Patient Advocate. She enjoys traveling/cruising, comedy, NYC, and spending time with her friends and family!
William has worked in the non-profit world for close to twenty years and sits on the PFLAG Jersey Shore board as the Fundraising & Community Outreach Coordinator. Some of the successful efforts that William has worked on for our chapter include sponsorships for Pride parades, give-away items to promote the chapter, the purchase of an iPad to use as a resource, the donation for a rebuild of our chapter’s website, and food and decorations for 100 attendees at our annual holiday party. William also led our Give-Out Day campaign over the past four years, each of them bringing PFLAG Jersey Shore to be the number one fundraising chapter in the country. William lives in New Jersey with his husband Charlie, their 5-year-old son Jaxon, and their 2 ½-year-old son Grayson. When William is not working his full-time job or volunteering with PFLAG, he loves to spend time with his family.
