This bill was introduced in the House as H.R. 5855 by Reps. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), David Cicilline (RI-1), Mark Takano (CA-41) and Mark Pocan (WI-2) on July 14, 2016.
The LGBT Pride Act would mandate that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) begin collecting sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data under the National Death Reporting System.
PFLAG Talking Points
- Fairness and equality for LGBTQ people. This bill would have LGBTQ people treated the same as every other protected class of people under federal law by requiring the CDC to begin collecting sexual orientation and gender identity data under the National Death Reporting System. PFLAG’s values are America’s values and that includes providing essential data collection that includes everyone, including LGBTQ people.
