Liz Owen has been with PFLAG National since January 2011. Prior to that, she was a working actress, singer, and composer, and served as Managing Director of Chicago’s Tony Award-winning Lookingglass Theatre. She also co-founded and served as Executive Director of FilmBureau, a nonprofit organization for Chicago filmmakers.
Liz moved from Chicago to LA and from nonprofit work to film development and production, first as an independent film producer, and later in development and production at Paramount Pictures. She then moved to Paramount’s national film publicity department, where she found her passion at the intersection of mission, media, and entertainment.
As an independent PR and communications consultant, she served entertainment and nonprofit clients, including the LGBTQ+ film, TRU LOVED. For that campaign, she developed partnerships with numerous national LGBTQ+ organizations; among them was PFLAG National. After serving several more independent clients, Liz jumped on the opportunity to join PFLAG National as a full-time staffer.
Liz received her BS in Communications from Northwestern University, majoring in theatre, later completing post-graduate work at the New Actors Workshop conservatory program in New York. She completed further studies at Second City and ImprovOlympic in Chicago—skills she still uses daily.
Liz is a native New Yorker and #MusicalTheatreNerd who loves taking day-long road trips with her college-aged twins and their dog.
