Lesbian. Gay. Bisexual. Transgender. Queer. Simple, right? Not for everyone. As allies become more engaged in LGBTQ+ spaces and advocacy, they often have questions about “the plus.” Please join PFLAG National to learn more about terminology that goes beyond the basics. Whether you’re not a member of the LGBTQ+ community or a person who is LGBTQ+ looking to understand and serve as an ally to others in this space, this session will get you started and ready for conversations.
In this session, participants will:
- Review some of the identities that are often considered to be a part of “the +” including nonbinary & Two-Spirit, pansexual, asexual & aromantic, intersex, and polyamorous;
- Discuss ways to demonstrate allyship to individuals who hold these, sometimes invisible, identities;
- Consider ways to develop effective chapter programming focused on these, often underserved, identities, and;
- Get connected with organizations led by, and resources created for, individuals and communities with identities that are a part of “the +”
