Won’t Be Erased: PFLAG National Statement on Transgender Erasure by the Administration
November 8, 2018
Today, PFLAG National released the following statement from board member Stephanie Battaglino:
“This callous, outrageous, hateful and inhuman action both enrages and frightens me to my core. The mere notion that a government, any government, expresses desire to enact rules that erase and endanger an entire group of individuals is to disregard the very values that PFLAG was founded on: Love, Respect, Compassion. The fact is that transgender people are a proud part of our families, communities, and society at large. To push them aside without dignity or fair recognition is infuriating, troubling, and dangerous for us all as co-workers, fellow family members, and neighbors.
I am proud that the people of PFLAG who are non-LGBTQ support us fully, and know I stand in solidarity with my trans and genderfluid siblings when I say:
You cannot eradicate me! I am here! I am undeterred! My true self is a living, breathing, loving, human being. These things you cannot and will not take away from me, for they are embedded in my soul and in my spirit! And with PFLAG and others, I know I’m not alone.”
