Vice President, Strategic Communications & External Relations
She/Her
(202) 657-4026
Liz Owen has been with PFLAG National since January 2011. Prior to that, she was one of the founding members—and served as Managing Director—of Chicago’s Tony Award-winning Lookingglass Theatre. She then co-founded and served as Executive Director of FilmBureau, a nonprofit organization for Chicago filmmakers
Liz moved from nonprofit work to film development and production, first as an independent film producer, and later in the Film Development and Production department at Paramount Pictures. She then moved to Paramount’s National Film Publicity department, first as an assistant then as a publicist. In this role, she found her calling in communications.
As an independent PR and communications consultant, she served entertainment and nonprofit clients, including the LGBTQ+ film, TRU LOVED. For that campaign, she developed partnerships with numerous national LGBTQ+ organizations; among the organizations was PFLAG National. After serving several more independent clients, Liz jumped on the opportunity to join PFLAG National as a full-time staffer in 2011.
Liz received her BS in Communications from Northwestern University, majoring in theatre, later completing her Masters work at the New Actors Workshop conservatory program in New York. She completed further studies at Second City and ImprovOlympic in Chicago—skills she still uses daily. She is a #MusicalTheatreNerd, who loves taking day-long road trip with her college-age twins and their dog.
