Videos
The best and easiest way to inspire the people in your network with your story is a short video, 60 seconds or less, spoken right into camera. You’ll want to write out and practice your message until you feel comfortable with it. To get started, personalize one of the sample scripts below or create your own with help from the talking points.
- Record in a safe and quiet place, especially if you plan to move around while talking.
- Check that the lighting is bright enough to see your face.
- Make sure other people in your location know you’re about to record so they don’t accidentally interrupt.
- Wipe off your phone camera’s lens to make sure the picture is clear and not smudged.
- Hold or place the camera vertically, at least an arm’s length away.
Accessibility
- Add Closed Captions
- If you post a video to Instagram, add closed captions by clicking the edit video button and then the CC button for Captions.
- If you post a video to TikTok, tap on the Captions menu option on the right-side menu.
- When posting a photo, be sure to include alt-text for the photo.
- On Facebook: Tap the … icon in the top right corner of the photo and then tap on “Edit alt-text” to add a description of your photo.
- On Instagram: On the New post screen, scroll down to Advanced Settings and then tap on Write Alt Text
- Alternative: you can include an image description in the text of your post by including [image description: describe your photo here.] at the end of the post text, changing ‘describe your photo here’ with what is in your photo.

Video Talking Points and Sample Script: The Freedom to Thrive
Gender-affirming care is healthcare. Yet politicians have put themselves between parents, patients and doctors for their own gain—and the result is doctors are leaving. When more than 83 million people in the U.S. don’t have access to a primary care physician, these laws make a bad situation worse.
That’s why this election, my love votes for keeping doctors and nurses in my community so everyone, transgender or not, has access to medically necessary care.

Talking Points
What you want the audience to know: your values
- Every person, transgender or not, does better when we get the health care we need, when we need it.
- Ensuring access to gender affirming care helps a transgender child continue to live their authentic and full life.

Talking Points
What you want the audience to know: your values
- Every student, across races, places and genders, deserves the freedom to learn.
- School should be a safe place where kids can explore their identity, from the activities they choose to the clothes they wear to their name.
- As a parent, I support policies that lead to honest, accurate, and inclusive education to give every child the freedom to learn.

Video Talking Points and Sample Script: The Freedom to Be Ourselves
No matter who we are, what we look like, or who we love, we know our communities are stronger when we are free to be our authentic selves. From now through Election Day on November 5th, I’m taking action with PFLAG to make sure my love votes—and I hope you join me!
There’s an organized effort to divide our families and communities by spreading false information about our LGBTQ+ loved ones, putting them in boxes—as if there’s only one “right” way to be, and everyone else is “wrong.”
But we see through their nonsense, and we know that we are stronger when we all have the freedom to be ourselves. My love for my LGBTQ+ family drives me to ensure we ALL have that freedom—and this election, my love votes!
Make sure your love votes, too. Visit PFLAG.org/LoveVotes [P-flag dot org, slash Love Votes] to check your registration and make your voting plan today!
Talking Points
What you want the audience to know: your values
- Whether you are Black, brown or white, Native or newcomer, transgender or not, we all want the freedom to be ourselves.
- It’s important to me that everyone—no matter their race, gender, where they’re from or who they love—feels welcome in my home, my workplace, and in my community.
