Call to President Biden to Veto the FY2025 NDAA

December 18, 2024

WASHINGTON—Today, the Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a must-pass piece of bipartisan legislation that annually funds everything the Department of Defense needs to ensure our national security, including healthcare for the military service members and their families who have sacrificed for our freedom. However, the final version of the NDAA eliminates necessary gender-affirming care for transgender minors.

Brian K. Bond, CEO of PFLAG National released the following statement:

“Those who serve and sacrifice for our country deserve better than the majority of our Senate delivered today. Thousands of PFLAG military families, veterans and civilians contacted their Senators and Members of Congress to demand the removal of the amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that eliminates access to life-affirming healthcare for the transgender children of military service members. Yet, today Senators failed to do the difficult and morally right thing to fight for military families to get both the significant raise in pay they deserve and also maintain their parental rights to get the healthcare their children need, including their transgender children. PFLAG families across the nation urge President Biden to veto this NDAA and send it back to Congress to do their job and ensure our military does not harbor discrimination.”

Additionally, Bond sent the following letter directly to President Biden, urging him to veto this NDAA and send it back to Congress to ensure our military does not harbor discrimination of any kind.

Open letter from Brian K. Bond, CEO of PFLAG National to President Joseph R. Biden, requesting the president veto the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act and send it back to congress.
