PFLAG National, Second Peninsula and Filmmaker Brooke Sebold launch “I Changed My Mind”
September 15, 2025
WASHINGTON — PFLAG National, in partnership with creative studio Second Peninsula and award-winning filmmaker Brooke Sebold, today announced the release of I Changed My Mind, a five-episode series that shines a light on personal journeys of growth, courage and change. The short films will be released from September through December, with each film profiling unique intersectional experiences across race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, faith and geography. The first episode, “Ria’s Story” will be released today at 1p.m. ET to mark the first day of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs through Oct. 15.
Through candid storytelling, I Changed My Mind explores what it means to re-examine deeply held beliefs, embrace empathy, and step into authenticity. At a time when polarization dominates headlines, the series emphasizes the possibilities of bridging divides – how people can grow, unlearn, and make space for new ways of seeing. Produced in partnership with PFLAG National, each episode reflects the capacity for change that lies within us all.
“Stories have the power to challenge assumptions, build bridges, and inspire change,” said Brooke Sebold, Director of I Changed My Mind. “This series brings to life the deeply personal transformations that can happen when people are willing to listen, reflect and open themselves up to love.”
“PFLAG has long been dedicated to supporting families, affirming LGBTQ+ people and creating a more inclusive world. I Changed My Mind reminds us that growth is always possible and that every move toward understanding and acceptance matters,” said Brian K. Bond, CEO of PFLAG National.
“At a time when intellectual humility feels rare, this series models what it looks like in practice. Brooke has a gift for drawing out stories that remind us to see the person sitting beside us more fully,” said Steve Goldbloom, creator of Brief But Spectacular and founder of Second Peninsula.
Each episode is designed to spark conversation, connect with timely cultural moments and inspire audiences to reflect on their own journeys. The upcoming release schedule, along with a brief overview of each episode, can be found below:
- September 15 – Ria’s Story: A Latina mother whose son’s courage to come out inspired her to embrace a part of herself she had kept buried since adolescence.
- October 7 – Sue’s Story: A devout Christian and former Republican who once opposed LGBTQ+ rights, now marching in Pride parades in support of her daughter.
- October 28 – Deedee’s Story: A single mom who, after secretly questioning her trans son’s identity, learns the true meaning of support through community.
- November 24 – Elton’s Story: Born and raised on the Navajo Nation, Elton’s path to HIV activism was shaped by family loss and his drive to end stigma.
- December 9 – Adrianne’s Story: Once the godchild of white nationalist David Duke, Adrianne ultimately rejected extremism and embraced truth—coming out as both antiracist and trans.
I Changed My Mind is the most recent series supported by PFLAG National, which has previously produced projects such as What Makes Pride (2021), in partnership with Melissa Harris Perry and Wear Your Voice, Climbing Every Mountain (2020), in partnership with Transilient, and its own in-house weekly series, Something to Talk About Live! which debuted in April 2020.
