Mondelēz International to be honored by PFLAG National with the 2023 Straight for Equality in the Workplace Award at 50th Anniversary Gala
February 13, 2023
NEW YORK (February 13, 2023) — On Friday, March 3 PFLAG will honor long-time corporate partner Mondelēz International, the parent company of OREO, with the 2023 Straight for EqualityTM in the Workplace Award during its 50th Anniversary Gala to be held at New York’s Marriott Marquis Hotel. Actress Tati Gabrielle (YOU, Kaleidoscope) will present the award, one of several honors to be bestowed throughout the evening.
“On behalf of Mondelēz International, I am incredibly proud of our standing partnership with PFLAG National and the work our teams have created to foster inclusivity and champion the notion of what true allyship to the LGBTQ+ community can look like,” said Mary Barnard, President of US Commercial of Mondelēz International upon hearing about the upcoming honor from PFLAG. “As we celebrate PFLAG’s 50th anniversary, we are honored to continue our partnership and shared goal of allyship and meaningful and impactful interactions with the LGBTQ+ community.”
“Over the years, OREO has voiced unwavering inclusive support of LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones,” said Brian K. Bond, Executive Director of PFLAG National. “That allyship extends through their philanthropic partnership with PFLAG National. Together we’ve worked on incredible campaigns like Proud Parent, produced wonderful short films like The Note by Alice Wu, and engaged in year-round social media efforts to demonstrate public affirmation of LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones. For all this and more, PFLAG is proud to honor Mondelēz International with the 2023 Straight for Equality in the Workplace Award.”
Jean-Marie Navetta, who is Director of Learning and Inclusion for PFLAG National, shared, “Mondelēz International has engaged in year-round learning through our Straight for EqualityTM program in an effort to ensure that they didn’t only establish inclusive policies for employees but addressed the critical issue of inclusive culture change, too. We’re grateful for their continued meaningful support, and proud to honor them with the Straight for Equality in the Workplace Award.”
PFLAG National launched the Straight for Equality program in 2007, extending the organization’s decades of work with families and parents to non-family allies. The Straight for Equality in the Workplace Award recognizes a corporation that has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the area of creating inclusive and supportive workplaces for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) employees through ally engagement and education. Mondelēz has consistently done this work, pushing forward on their learning, building an inclusive workplace culture, and always speaking out loudly and proudly in support of the entire LGBTQ+ community.
“I am honored to be tasked with presenting Mondelēz with the 2023 Straight for Equality in the Workplace award at PFLAG’s 50th Anniversary Gala,” said Tati Gabrielle, who identifies as pan. “I know through my own work and from my fans how important vocal and unwavering allyship is for the LGBTQ+ community. I also know how important visibility is, and to see families like mine portrayed in the media, like Alice Wu’s short film created for OREO and PFLAG National, The Note. Thank you, PFLAG, for inviting me to play a small role in the work of honoring that visibility and affirming LGBTQ+ people.”
PFLAG’s 50th Anniversary Gala will be hosted by Amber Ruffin, featuring Rose Abdoo (HACKS) Tati Gabrielle (YOU, Uncharted), Eureka (WE’RE HERE), and many more, with live performances from VINCINT, Robin S. and Evann McIntosh. The Honorary Host Committee includes: Andrew Rannells, Audra McDonald, Chef Melissa King, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Justin Mikita, Kristin Chenoweth, Martha Plimpton, Matt Doyle, Nate Berkus, Patrick Stewart, Sunny Ozell, Will Swenson, and Wilson Cruz.
