PFLAG National On Policies of Family Separation

June 20, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Board of Directors and Regional Directors of PFLAG National—the nation’s first and largest organization uniting families, allies, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people—today issued the following statement opposing the administration’s new policy that separates parents from their children at our country’s borders:

“PFLAG knows firsthand the power of family and community, and the crucial need of all children to have loving and supportive parents. To watch families being ripped apart—even as the parents in those families are seeking a better, safer life for themselves and their children in our great country—is devastating and enraging. This requires us to not only speak out, but to take action whenever and wherever possible.

These families deserve our full support to stay together and not to experience the emotional and physical harm that the Trump Administration’s new ‘zero tolerance’ immigration policies are inflicting upon them. There is no such thing as an ‘infestation’ of human beings, and no child—no person—should ever be held in inhumane conditions.

As the national leaders of PFLAG, gathered from every corner of the country, we are in solidarity with these families, and on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of PFLAG members and supporters we represent, we commit to continued action and advocacy to end this horrible policy and practice.”

Our Love is Louder!

The Texas Attorney General took an outrageous action and demanded that PFLAG National turn over information about our support of families in Texas seeking gender-affirming medical care for their transgender youth. Help make sure families who need PFLAG’s vital resources can get them!
