PFLAG National Joins Call for Immediate Full Repeal of North Carolina’s HB2

December 19, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC—PFLAG National—the nation’s largest organization uniting families, allies, and people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ)—has called for the full repeal of HB2, after the Charlotte City Council today unanimously voted to rescind the LGBTQ ordinance that preceded passing the state’s discriminatory HB2 legislation earlier this year. Governor McCrory has called for a special legislative session to consider a full repeal.

“We have said it from the start about the divisive and discriminatory HB2: North Carolina is not this, and there is no more time to delay,” said Elizabeth Kohm, PFLAG National Interim Executive Director. “The danger caused to our LGBTQ loved ones, and the damage already done not just to them and their families but to the state as a whole–both to its reputation and its economy–will only be undone with a full and immediate repeal. We commend Charlotte’s City Council for its reaffirmed commitment to passing comprehensive nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people following this repeal, but it must happen now. North Carolina’s families and business need HB2 stripped from the books, permanently; fairness and decency–and PFLAG–demand it.”

PFLAG has 16 chapters in North Carolina, and over 400 chapters across the United States and Puerto Rico. To learn more about our advocacy work, visit pflag.org/wherewestand.
