Statement on Government Threats to the SPLC

April 22, 2026

WASHINGTON,D.C.—Yesterday, the Southern Poverty Law Center, a longtime partner of PFLAG National as members of the Leadership Council for Civil and Human Rights, shared that the organization has been indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice.

PFLAG National CEO Brian K. Bond (he/him) released the following statement in solidarity with SPLC:

PFLAG National, our chapters, members and supporters join our voices in support of the Southern Poverty Law Center and everyone’s freedom to speak out against injustice. This latest effort to cast a shadow on the noble and dangerous work of the SPLC highlights that those in power fear the power of the people to organize and protect our rights. Across the country, whether we are Black, white or Brown, Native or newcomer, gay, straight, transgender or cis, we rise up in unity for our freedom, and we will not be silenced!
